Eighteen-year-old Frankie Johns discovers the ghost of a teenage girl (Caroline Wald) residing in the abandoned undertaker’s house up the street. She is beautiful and seems very sweet. He also discovers a little cache of skeletons piled behind a false wall in the basement of the house. There is perhaps something quite evil living there, as well. He is nevertheless infatuated by the ghost, and she convinces him to dig up her grave to retrieve her diary, which had been buried with her.

The diary shows a diabolical change in the girl from sweet little thing to murderous monster. She explains it away, but Caroline Wald might not be what she appears to be.

At the same time Frankie is struggling with what it means to be newly grown up, and is trying to find some direction for his life. He is trying to get into college and decide on what he will do with himself.

He comes into conflict with a great evil living in the house, the police, his best friend, and his parents.

This book will scare you, make you laugh and make you cry. And although it deals with issues relating to being 18, it is appropriate for adults as well, and is written with the hope that adults will read it and appreciate it. Contains some cussing.

Have you ever wanted to kill somebody?

Sorry, that’s a blunt question. It might make you uncomfortable. If it does–if your stomach knots or your skin prickles–then your answer is yes. You probably don’t want to admit it. I get that. But it doesn’t change the fact that deep down you’re a killer.

Like me.

My name is Mia Sanguine. I’m a 17-year- old girl, living in Australia. I go to school, play percussion in the orchestra, and study when I have to. I like horror movies, comic books, and punk music. Oh, and yeah, a group of teenagers has ruined my life.

So I’m going to kill them.

But don’t get me wrong–I’m not talking about some Columbine-styled rubbish. No offense, but this isn’t the United States. All I need is a mask, an outfit, and a pair of knives. You see, I’m going to become a slasher movie villain. Like Jason, Mike, or Ghostface. In real life. Not because it’s right. But because of what I am.

A YOUNG SLASHER.
