Sometimes the monsters are the heroes.
Athen and Paul, two brothers who live in a long-decayed world, find their lives turned upside down when Athen suddenly transforms into a monster. After mortally injuring his father, Athen flees into the mountains, ashamed of what he has become. But soon a new threat brings him out of hiding. Now he will have to embrace the thing that he has become in order to protect what remains of his family.
Miles away, Ansela, an autistic girl with a strange gift, lives alone in an abandoned building after the Hollow Men sweep into her city and kill everyone she loves, including her parents. After months of loneliness and struggling to control her own mind, she unexpectedly discovers a group of survivors. Though she is initially afraid to trust them, Ansela begins to hope that she finally has a family and a place to belong. She forms a close relationship with Joan, who becomes both a mother and a sister to her. But as much as she loves these people, Ansela’s presence among them will have disastrous consequences, and soon she will have to choose between her new life and their survival.
Athen and Ansela are just two of the freaks whose lives are on a collision course and whose unnatural abilities will change the dying world that they live in.
