DESCRIPTION:

of 1789, on the western edge of the Yorkshire Dales, a dense, persistent fog enshrouds the village of Ingleton. Shadowed spirits hide in the mist and bedevil the townsfolk, heralding a tragedy that has befallen one of their own.

Edmond continues to search for Alexandra, his fiancée, who disappeared the same night that the mist set upon their town. Presumed dead by all others, he visits Alexandra's empty grave, desperate for any hint of what has become of her. Weary from the sleepless nights on his quest, no longer able to stay awake, Edmond falls into a dream before her headstone and there obtains clues from Alexandra as to her whereabouts.

Haunted all the while by a malevolent spirit, Edmond follows the trail that Alexandra left for him and enters the underworld, only to learn that he has been there before, and in fact, quite often. But more, he discovers how he is to blame for Alexandra's disappearance.

A literary dark fantasy rich in imagery, Discussion of a Decent Dream unearths the consequences of a child's decision to surrender his heart in exchange for unholy power and transcendent knowledge.

Seth Kesler is thrilled to discover that the defunct C-U Journal is making a comeback. He loves newspapers and believes it is his--and society's--civic duty to read them. But something is deeply off about the new publication in Champaign-Urbana, starting with the oily paper-hawker he dubs the Newspaperman, who hand-sells the C-U Journal for a mere dime on a downtown street corner. Seth's delight soon turns to dismay when he sees the bizarre stories printed as fact and mysterious goings-on at the once-esteemed paper's main office. He makes it his goal to put a stop to the whole shady operation, even though it means battling news titan Richard W. Fields, a multimillionaire who represents the worst of an exploitive corporate world.

The Newspaperman is a smart horror/mystery that will keep readers intrigued right up until the gut-punch ending.

The burning desire to get away from it all will soon become the desperate need to escape…

Randy and Nicole Henderson would both admit their marriage has been anything but a bed of roses. Randy is obsessive-compulsive and Nicole has problems with fidelity, but until now, they've never been able to go their own separate ways.

Wanting to give their three daughters a final quiet family weekend before they file for divorce, The Hendersons set out for their vacation home on the shores of an idyllic lake in the Appalachian Mountains. However, the weekend is anything but peaceful.

Their oldest daughter winds up in the emergency room, then their middle daughter has a strange nightmare. The final straw comes when Nicole has her own nightmare and wakes to find evidence the youngest daughter has been roaming in the forest during the night, even though there is no plausible explanation for how she got outside.

Upon returning home, it dawns on Randy that strange things have been happening at the cabin since he began visiting there with his parents and brother as a child. The latest weekend, bad as it was, only hints at the climax that will reveal why the place is called Grey Lake.

5 Stars - One of the most smartly written post-apocalyptic stories I've read in a long time

Mr. Baird simply did an amazing job at creating a world... only to do an even more amazing job destroying it.
I highly recommend this to fans of not only post-apocalyptic stories, but horror stories as well.

Evan - Amazon customer

5 Stars

Baird has the ability to craft huge, bold plot lines and populate them with the most distinctive, entrancing and lovable/hateable characters. The Jesus Man was a vivid, complex and enjoyable piece with some tough content and outstanding imagery that is worth reading and deserves a place on any horror/fantasy/apocalyptic fan's bookshelf.

Twisted Mind - Amazon customer

5 Stars - A new author to be reckoned with

A novel to be read and enjoyed on many levels ... in an English that in its extraordinary breadth is brilliantly visual.

It is 2037. Radicals in the Middle East have done the unthinkable. Low-yield nuclear weapons have been unleashed and the subsequent escalation of exchanges is enough to blacken the skies.

In time, the world goes dark. Crops fail and economies begin the inevitable collapse. Countries close their borders, cease trading with one another and declare martial law to control their populations. As oil and power dwindle, the descent into chaos follows and the global meltdown unfolds.

An entity arrives and this malevolent force begins its strategy to claim this broken territory as a piece in a long-waged celestial conflict. Moving half a century ahead, the story centres on a colony entrenched in the desert of the Four Corners region of the United States. It is a place of sanctuary, established in the post-war years and grown to be a stronghold in the badlands. In the wake of the entity's global strategy, it stands as the sole remaining seat of the human race. Its citizens are ruled by a brotherhood of elders who cling to the shattered remnants of the Christian faith.

A priest, favoured of the sect, begins to suffer nightmarish visions as evil turns its intent on the last bastion of mankind still to fall by its hand. Overcome, and subsequently possessed, the holy man becomes the vessel through which dark forces infiltrate the colony and lay low the last of men with a crushing malediction which will claim their souls, their homeworld and ultimately their Godhead for all time.

Rich in descriptive content and paced throughout with a growing sense of doom, The Jesus Man delivers an unsurpassed vision of Hell on Earth.
